little boots

A while back, I kept up a personal blog.  It was during the time that we were trying to start our family.  At first, I wasn't terribly comfortable with the idea of sharing the more private parts of my life to the internet.  But, to my surprise, I found that the words came quite naturally. I stopped updating that space around the time my daughter was born.  Life just got too busy.

Now, I find myself writing this blog.  But, I've been struggling with what to post here.  So far, I've kept it strictly to photography and it's started to feel a little limited.  Instead, I'm thinking that I'd rather try to document both the personal and the professional here.

So, for my initial less-photography-focused post, I give you my daughter's new moccasins.  Finding proper soles on tiny shoes required some persistence, but I think all that cuteness was worth the search.

For a while now, I've followed the blog of the fabulous Rachel Devine.  You can't help but be drawn in by her wit, honesty, and of course her amazing photos.  She is literally one of my phootography inspirations.  So, when I heard that she was going to be having a workshop in DC of all places, I jumped at the chance to attend.  It was my very first workshop and I admit, I was a wee bit nervous.  But, from the moment I met Rachel (and her amazing assistant Meredith), that apprehension melted away.  Instead, I had an incredible time learning alongside an impressive group of photographers.  I am excited to keep learning, to keep shooting and to keep doing what I love.

These are some of my favorite images I took from that day:

31 Days of Nora | Part 3

This girl.  Both entertains and exhausts me.  Constantly.

She is curious and busy.  I love watching her explore and learn.  It's almost as if you can see the wheels in her little head turning.

I'm so glad that I have these snapshots from the past month.

connections | washington, dc photographer

I've said it before, but I love my job. I love it even more when I get to reconnect with a childhood friend. Christy and I grew up in the same small town and although we've also lived in the same city for the past few years, our paths never crossed. That is until the other week. She and her husband just welcomed their second child, a son, and I was beyond delighted to have the chance to capture some sweet moments of the babe with his sister. Just a beautiful family.

31 Days of Nora | Part 2

Nora's going through a lot of changes.  She's dropping to one nap, getting some teeth, no longer going to day care.  All this is making for a rather spirited July.  Part of me loves the little firecracker that she is developing into and part of me lives in fear of just how willful a 13 month-old can be.

project | 31 days of nora

I have wanted to do a project that involved a daily photograph for a while now, but working outside the home limited me to a very narrow window of opportunity. Seeing Nora in her car seat everyday wasn't exactly what I had in mind. Now that I am working from home, I am able to spend many more waking hours with my babe. At first, I was excited to do a snap-a-picture-a-day-for-a-year.  Then, I thought that perhaps I should be a bit more realistic and try for a month. I'm excited to capture this little period of daily moments.  Here's a look her July so far . . .

fresh | silver spring, md photographer

Spending time with a newborn, right after your own baby had her first birthday is both delightful and a little dangerous. This little man was just finishing up a bath right as I arrived and was so fresh and clean. He was also the perfect model, cooperatively napping during much of the session.

Welcome to the world baby Nathaniel.

the light within me

My baby turned ONE today.

It was easily the most incredible and most difficult year in of my life.

Time seemed to both creep and fly, impossibly, at the same time.

My heart burst open daily.

Baby girl, the light within me bows to the light within you.

Happy Birthday!
