31 Days of Nora | Part 3

This girl.  Both entertains and exhausts me.  Constantly.

She is curious and busy.  I love watching her explore and learn.  It's almost as if you can see the wheels in her little head turning.

I'm so glad that I have these snapshots from the past month.

31 Days of Nora | Part 2

Nora's going through a lot of changes.  She's dropping to one nap, getting some teeth, no longer going to day care.  All this is making for a rather spirited July.  Part of me loves the little firecracker that she is developing into and part of me lives in fear of just how willful a 13 month-old can be.

project | 31 days of nora

I have wanted to do a project that involved a daily photograph for a while now, but working outside the home limited me to a very narrow window of opportunity. Seeing Nora in her car seat everyday wasn't exactly what I had in mind. Now that I am working from home, I am able to spend many more waking hours with my babe. At first, I was excited to do a snap-a-picture-a-day-for-a-year.  Then, I thought that perhaps I should be a bit more realistic and try for a month. I'm excited to capture this little period of daily moments.  Here's a look her July so far . . .

the light within me

My baby turned ONE today.

It was easily the most incredible and most difficult year in of my life.

Time seemed to both creep and fly, impossibly, at the same time.

My heart burst open daily.

Baby girl, the light within me bows to the light within you.

Happy Birthday!

her first monument

Living in Washington, D.C., we thought it was about time to show our little birdie some history.  So, one fine weekend morning, we ventured over to the Lincoln Memorial.  I'm not sure she appreciated the powerfulness of those words etched into the walls, but she definitely liked Abe's beard!

do what you love

Part of the magic of childhood is that anything is possible.  You can dream dreams as high as the sky and there is nothing to stop you from reaching them.  At least, that was my very fortunate experience.  But like many dreamers, I have stayed safely tethered to the ground by some tugging of obligation and security to take a more conventional career path.

I like my chosen profession, I do.  But, since the birth of my daughter, it has become very clear to me that I do not love it.  Having a child has caused me to reevaluate a lot about my life and how I spend my time.   I realized that I need to do what I love and not settle for something that is just okay.  I have also discovered a real love of photography.  Of capturing that quiet moment.  That sweet smile.  That perfectly imperfect thing that is life.  It is both exciting and daunting to go about trying to live life on my own terms.  Fortunately, I have heaps of encouragement and support from that same family that is inspiring me to make these changes.

Welcome to this space where I intend to document this leap.
